About Us

As Turkish Accelerator Center (TAC) project group, we are studying on to design and construction of our national accelerator center to use particle accelerators for research and development in basic and applied sciences.

For this purpose, we completed feasibility and conceptual design phases of TAC project in 2001 and 2005, respectively.

Since the beginning of 2006, with the support of State Planning Organization of Turkey (DPT) we start to study on writing the Technical Design Report of TAC as inter-universities collaboration with 110 people under the coordination of Ankara University. The collaboration includes 10 Turkish Universities (Ankara, Boğaziçi, Doğuş, Dumlupınar, Erciyes, Gazi, İstanbul, Niğde, S. Demirel and Uludag Universities).

Another main aim of the third phase of TAC project is to establish the first accelerator based light source facility of Turkey (IR FEL & Bremsstrahlung). We are planning to complete the first facility and the TDR of TAC in 2013. The completion of TAC will cover 2014-2023 periods. TAC will consist of different GeV scale electron, positron and proton accelerators to study experimental particle and nuclear physics and to produce synchrotron radiation and free electron lasers to use in basic and applied sciences.

Starting from 2001, we organized National Particle Accelerators and Their Application Congresses (UPHUK) in every three years and National Particle Accelerators and Detectors Summer Schools (UPHDYO) annually starting from 2005.

We have scientific collaboration agreements with well known accelerator laboratory from Europe like CERN (Geneva), DESY (Hamburg), BESSY (Berlin) and FZD (Dresden).

We hope that, TAC will be completed in time and will give opportunities to researchers from Turkey and abroad to use accelerator based modern tools for research and applications.

With best regards,
TAC Project Group
